Starting a Business: 5 Lessons From 0 Clients to Agency Owner

I left a stable job to start an agency with 0 clients.

And it's still one of the scariest things I've ever done on purpose.

Mel Robbins shared this quote, and it's been living in my head rent-free:

If the next step scares you a little, that's usually a sign you're reaching for something that matters.

Whenever I think about any situations that scared me,
all of it comes down to one habit.

Starting before I had any confidence at all.

I didn't feel ready to leave or ready to found Fluency.
I definitely didn't feel ready the first time I had to tell a client something they didn't want to hear.

None of that readiness is ever on a straight timeline.
I just started anyway, and the confidence caught up later.

If you're waiting to feel ready before you make your move,
here's what works better than waiting:

1️⃣ Set a deadline before you feel ready.
↳ Yeah, you may not feel motivated, but if it's in the calendar, you're more likely to do it.

2️⃣ Say it out loud before you know how.
↳ Once someone else knows, backing out gets a lot more expensive.

3️⃣ Let the first attempt be bad.
↳ Nobody's first pitch, first hire, or first launch was their best one.

4️⃣ Cringe fades. Regret doesn't.
↳ Send the email, make the call, or post the thing. Whatever it is, just do it.

5️⃣ Getting told "no" just means you asked.
↳ The people who never hear it are the ones who never tried.

The key to building confidence and something new is simple:

Just start.

What's the thing you're waiting to feel ready for?
