Discount vs. Bundle vs. Loyalty
Your best customer just got 3 different offers for the same purchase.
A discount code, a bundle deal, and a loyalty reward, all at once.
Only one of those was necessary.
(Funnily enough...)
That's what a lot of pricing strategy looks like behind the scenes.
And it's exactly how margin disappears without anyone being able to explain why.
The brands that find themselves in this situation are the ones
treating discounts, bundles, and loyalty like 3 strangers who've never met.
Same customer, same product, 0 coordination.
You need to run them as 1 system instead.
Here's how:
💸 Discount: The Urgent Lever
✅ Best for clearing inventory or reactivating a cold cart.
⚒️ Use it sparingly, and attach a reason. Never just because revenue is behind.
📍 Top tip: Never discount your best-selling SKU. Discount the one sitting in the warehouse.
📦 Bundle: The Margin Protector
✅ Best for lifting AOV without touching the price of your hero product.
⚒️ Pair a high-margin add-on with your best seller instead of discounting the best seller.
📍 Top tip: Build the bundle around a need, instead of around inventory you want gone.
🎁 Loyalty: The Retention Channel
✅ Best for lifting AOV without touching the price of your hero product.
⚒️ Reward the behavior you want repeated, instead of the dollar amount spent.
📍 Top tip: Give loyalty members something a discount code never could, like early access.
Here's the flywheel:
What sells on discount tells you what's worth bundling next.
⬇️
What sells well bundled tells you what's worth rewarding in the loyalty program.
⬇️
What loyalty members redeem tells you which discount protects margin and which one doesn't.
A lot of brands pick one lever and pull it every time revenue dips.
The brands protecting margin build all 3 and let each one do its job, on the same page.
