15 Years of Leadership Lessons in 60 Seconds
15 years of leading teams inside consumer and media brands taught me 1 thing:
Leading people has very little to do with having the right answer.
For a long time, I thought that was the whole job.
Then I watched 2 leaders make the exact same call, with the exact same information,
And get completely different results from their teams.
The difference wasn't the call itself.
It was building an environment where good decisions get easier to make,
Especially when nobody has perfect information.
When I started out, I thought leadership meant showing up with certainty.
Now I think it means building the conditions where the right call becomes obvious, even under pressure.
A few lessons keep proving that, no matter what team or brand I'm working with.
Here's what I'd tell any leader running a team right now:
1️⃣ More data doesn't mean better decisions
More signals does.
A dashboard nobody acts on is just decoration.
2️⃣ Structure beats charisma
Energy is always important in leadership, but it's not what keeps teams aligned.
They stay aligned because they know what's expected and what happens next.
3️⃣ The best leaders stay close to the work
The moment judgment happens, 3 layers below you,
Decisions stop reflecting what matters to the business.
4️⃣ Bigger doesn't mean better
Bigger agencies get you leverage.
Smaller, senior teams get you context.
And context is what makes the decision right.
5️⃣ Burnout isn't a growth strategy
I've never seen a team scale past the point where the people running it stopped sleeping.
Rest is what keeps you going when you need to hit the next goal.
6️⃣ Certainty rarely shows up before a big decision
What shows up instead is confidence built from experience,
And that's usually enough to move forward.
7️⃣ People remember how you showed up when things went wrong
Not the deck or the strategy.
Just how you led through it.
8️⃣ Every leader hits the same wall eventually
The moment someone tells you what isn't working.
What you do next says more than the strategy ever will.
9️⃣ The best leaders build people who don't need them anymore
If your team can't make good decisions without you in the room,
You've built a bottleneck.
The longer I do this, the less I chase new frameworks.
I just keep circling back to the fundamentals.
The ones that still work when the team changes, the pressure goes up, and nobody's watching how you handle it.
